2015 ..The finish of the Janet Stamper Fall Series and Kitsilano Yacht Club Fall Series has signaled that it’s time to start planning our racing for the spring, summer and fall of 2016.
We had a great year of racing culminating with our fall events combined with the Blue Nose Regatta. – Blue Nose Results… Magical skippered by Kerry Brann first place – net 8 points , Classical skippered by Barry Legge 2nd place- 20 points, Hysterical skippered by Zenon Samila 3rd place- 21 points. We had 7 Cal 20 competitors for the event and were challenged with heavy rain and 15 knot winds gusting to 30 on Saturday and medium light winds that resulted in just 2 races on Sunday and maybe 1 knot of of wind for race 7 of the regatta. Very challenging with both extremes. Some racers find the light winds to be the most challenging for patience and skill.
The Janet Stamper Fall Series 2016 Results – 1st place – Magical , Kerry Brann – 2nd place – Whimsical, Zenon Samila – 3rd place – Pinnical , Ted Sharplin .
The Cal 20 Class Championship held in Tacoma this past August was a great event. Well organized and the hospitality was exceptional. For more info please attend the KYC Barbecue being held on Sep 26th There will be a short presentation for our Fleet and a slide show of the Class Champs. Our Fleet will be taking new sailors for a quick sail off the dock for those interested. It’s going to be fun and the food will be fantastic. Mingle with some new and old and prospective members. It’s our best opportunity to grow the fleet and the club.
The Cal 20 Pacific Northwest District Championships were a great success. 5 Boats From Tacoma 1 From Friday Harbour and 2 From Vancouver participated. The Event was hosted by The Bellingham Yacht Club and held in conjunction with the Pitch Regatta. The weather gods were smiling on us as the forecast was for rain the whole weekend and we received mostly sun and cloud with moderate to strong winds. It was perfect Cal 20 sailing. There were even a few spectator boats that seemed very keen at following our fleet. Burr Hope and crew onboard Deja Vu were the first place winners and also received the trophy for first overall in the Pitch Regatta. Congratulations Burr ! . second place was John Thompson and crew onboard Willie Tippet. Congratulations Jon ! Kerry Brann and crew onboard Magical were in 3rd place. Congratulations Kerry !
Thank you to Bellingham Yacht Club and the Fantastic Race Committee they provided. We enjoyed the pre and after race parties and dinners and will certainly highlight this event for next year.
